Greenwood Groundscapes is a third-generation, family-run groundworks and landscaping business based in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex. We combine over 30 years of hands-on construction experience with a new generation of passion for gardens, outdoor spaces, and growing your own fruit and veg.
🧱 A Family Legacy in Groundworks
It all started with Derek Greenwood — a well-respected name in the local building trade. His son, Scott Greenwood, joined him at 21, and together they built the business from the ground up — quite literally — and earned a reputation for honesty, hard work, and exceptional attention to detail. Greenwoods quickly became a trusted name on sites across Sussex & Kent.
🪑 A Story That Says It All
A favourite family story from the early days truly says a lot about our values. When Derek and Scott were restarting the business on a shoestring budget, Scott attended a local auction packed with seasoned industry buyers. Instead of bidding on machinery, he quietly placed a bid on an office chair for his dad. Out of respect, not a single person bid against him. That chair still belongs to the Greenwood family today.
👷 Scott Greenwood — 30+ Years of Experience
Scott has spent the last 30+ years working across all aspects of groundworks — from reinforced concrete and drainage to patios, site prep, and structural builds like the South Beach Apartments in Bexhill, and numerous residential homes across East Sussex & Kent. He’s worked alongside architects, site managers, and subcontractors on everything from residential jobs to complex commercial projects. If there’s one thing he’s known for, it’s doing things properly.
🌿 A New Generation of Green Spaces
In 2025, Scott’s youngest son Matt decided to step away from a career in tech and join the family trade. After years working in fast-paced customer-facing roles, he felt the pull toward more meaningful, hands-on work — and it started right in his own back garden.
What began with a simple raised bed turned into home-grown carrots, potatoes, beans, courgettes, cucumbers, and a new patio he laid with his dad, Scott. That hands-on satisfaction turned into something bigger — a desire to work outside, build things that last, and help others enjoy their own green spaces.

Together, Matt and Scott relaunched as Greenwood Groundscapes with the same values as ever: quality work, honest advice, and pride in every job — big or small. It’s a true blend of modern service and traditional craftsmanship.
We’re proud to carry on the legacy of Derek Greenwood, whose values of honesty and hard work still guide everything we do.

With over three decades of groundworks experience, Scott leads with a no-compromise approach to quality. Concrete, drainage, foundations — you name it, he’s done it. One of our favourite family lines comes from his late father Derek:
"Scott, I’m not sure how you’re going to do it, but I know you will."
He always did — and still does.
Matt Greenwood
Customer Lead | Landscaping Specialist | Bexhill
With a background in customer service and a growing passion for fruit, veg, and regenerative gardening, Matt brings a fresh perspective to the team. He’s focused on making gardens productive, sustainable, and easy to maintain — with guidance and support that continues long after the job is done. Matt lives in Bexhill and works across East Sussex & Kent — from garden beds and patios to complete outdoor transformations.
